Thank goodness for Unlimited. This book takes about an hour to read, and I suspect took about that long to write as well. There's not a single original thought in the entire 80 pages. Vapid, trite, and sophomoric.
Disappointing. I like Brian's blog and saw that he had written a book but this was profoundly disappointing.
The book, Creative Genius, distills down a difficult subject, into several very easy-to-read chapters. The writing style is very simple, making the book a fast read. I have no regrets for purchasing, and my time spent reading it was very well spent.
Here we have a no b.s book of inspiration. No excuses, just get on with it! Do it. I will keep it close and expect to refer to it often.
A very thoughtful book about the creative process. I very much enjoyed it and would highly recommend it. I found the book to be insight on the idea that becoming a great artist, or great at anything for that matter, is a lonely process. But you must push through and trust yourself.
I finished this book in about an hour. It flowed really well and was enjoyable and thought-provoking overall. There were several times that I ended up pausing to think about what was written, and I even took some notes. Here are some of those thought-provoking quotes from the book
"The physical act of creation is what creates value. Ideas do not."
"If the goal is to catch 100 fish, do the simplest thing to catch 100 fish."
Mr. Knapp also talks about creating an "artisan business" which was novel to me. There's a difference between a hobby and artisan business, he says. An artisan business is all-encompassing. It's about your life's work. A hobby isn't as serious. I really loved thinking about this.
Thoroughly enjoyed the book. I got quite a bit out of it as a soul-searching, what-do-I-do-with-my-life 20 something. Would recommend.
